The Courbet 4 S2 is the direct successor to the iconic Courbet 4, originally launched in 2018. This ultra-compact floorstanding speaker quickly became a reference, earning widespread praise from both national and international press and receiving numerous awards, including the prestigious Diapason d’Or, one of the highest distinctions in high-fidelity audio. The new S2 version preserves the sonic DNA of the original model while adopting the new aesthetic language of the Courbet range. The front grille is now shorter, revealing more of the cabinet finish. It is flush-mounted into the wood, perfectly aligned with the front baffle, and can be easily removed thanks to a discreet fabric pull tab. Another major evolution is the disappearance of sharp edges. All vertical cabinet edges are now rounded, as are the four corners of the grille, giving the speaker a softer, more modern and refined appearance. Acoustically, the Courbet 4 S2 features a 13 cm Kevlar cone woofer/midrange, now black regardless of cabinet finish. It is topped with a dispersion phase plug, designed to guide high-mid frequencies more smoothly, and surrounded by a fabric ring that reduces air turbulence at the center of the driver. The tweeter retains its 28 mm soft textile dome, but it has been completely redesigned. Its rear wave damping has been improved, further reducing distortion and enhancing musicality. This tweeter is an evolution of the unit used in the Olympia One Master 35, and is now shared across all Courbet S2 models. The color of the phase plug varies according to the cabinet finish : Black phase plug: White and Orange speakers / Aluminum phase plug: Gunmetal Gray finish / Champagne phase plug: Black lacquer finish The rear-firing bass-reflex port is positioned close to the floor, allowing low frequencies to disperse naturally along the ground and propagate efficiently throughout the listening room. Despite its discreet dimensions, the Courbet 4 S2 delivers a sound that is surprisingly lively and dynamic. Its 13 cm driver performs real feats within such a compact enclosure, offering impact, presence and musical engagement well beyond expectations. Stability is ensured by a screw-mounted metal base, essential for maintaining perfect balance with such a slim floorstanding design.
